Philosophe - Philosopher

This painting has been in for a long haul. I had asked a friend for photos to try and paint an “archetype”, which in this case was a philosopher. It took a while, but I did a sketch, then a painting of just the head (which I think I prefer to this, but I’m torn). It then took many months of on and off work for me to complete this portrait, which I recently did! In perspective, this project started at the beginning of the pandemic, and I completed in July 2021, almost a full year. The results don’t express a year of on and off work I feel, so I’m a bit disappointed, but I enjoy the learning opportunity! It is done on a handmade aluminium panel of 18 inches by 24 inches with oil paints and oil gilding of imitation gold leaf!
