Mère et son chat - Mother and her cat

My mom wanted to preserve one of her old photos, so I made her a copy of it and then asked if I could use it to make a painting, she agreed. I decided to use collage for once, and only worked on the photo atop of that, but not without first covering most of it in genuine silver leaf! You can’t change me, don’t try! It was really a fun project that was much needed then, and brings joy now to see. Interestingly enough, this was the second attend, as the first developed bubbles after applying the Kolner’s grey instacoll base for the silver leaf, so it' wasn’t an easy process, but in the end I came to the conclusion it had been for the best, as the second came out better. The sad thing is that, with gilding, you really can’t see the glow and mirror effect it has on scans (as shown on my Instagram!). It’s made with oil paint, photo paper and genuine silver leaf on a birch plywood panel of 10 inches by 8 inches.
