Les enfants de Degas - Degas’ Children
I saw these inspiring dancers on a music video and felt what I would guess Degas felt, seeing movement and being utterly inspired by it. I then spent a good while picking images on the internet and assembling them in Photoshop, trying to make a dark and rigid dance studio with a mirror in the back, reflecting what the room is like, as well as the figures. I wanted contrast in shapes, so that’s part of the decision making when juxtaposing the dancers to this harsh and square environment. It’s done on a handmade aluminium panel of 36 inches by 24 inches with oil paint on a hard acrylic ground.
